Pack Basket Backpack

Learn the basics of basket weaving and weave your very own basket backpack, suitable for loading produce at the farmers market, foraging for mushrooms in the forest, packing a picnic, or any pack basket dream you can imagine! This class will run two days. On the first day, students will learn about traditional pack baskets and prepare materials to weave in the morning, spending the afternoon to weave the basket base and uprights. Students will also receive a crash course on natural dyes, dyeing their cotton harness and basket material with locally harvested plants. On the second day, students will finish their basket with a rim tied with seagrass and rattan, and assemble a harness to their basket, ready to swing onto their backs and head for the hills!
